SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The Blues offense collected 19 hits en route to victory, the most of any game this season.
Six Blues collected hits on the day, with Joey Blank, Tate Blasi and Dominick Najar collecting extra bases. Kosei Suzuki, Diego Murillo and Blank all went 4-5, with those three driving in nine of the Blues' 13 runs. Murillo collected two stolen bases, and Suzuki showed off his arm, hosing a runner tagging up to third.
The Blues used eight arms to take down the Indians. Charlie Feris was the starter, going two innings, giving up no runs on one hit, walking one and striking out three. Bryce Padilla was tabbed with the win after entering in the second inning, with the Blues collecting two runs in that frame. Padilla went one inning, walked one batter and struck out three to get out of the inning. The staff collected 14 K's on the day, facing 40 batters.
Joey Blank was awarded the Player of the Game superlative for the second time in as many games. Blank went 4-5 with one double, scoring twice, stealing one base, driving in five runs and making his way around the bases with an inside-the-park home run. Blank has had an outstanding weekend, going 8-9 in his two games played and driving in eight runs for the Blues. Blank doesn't just give credit to his ability but to his teammates for wins like today's.
"Almost had 20 hits," Blank said. "So honestly everyone's Player of the Game."
The Blues hit the road to play the Orange County Riptide, MLB Academy Barons and Conejo Oaks starting Tuesday. When asked what he plans to bring on the road, Blank said he hopes to bring the energy the team had today.
"We definitely need to hit how we hit today," Blank said. "We just need to keep doing what we're doing and we'll be fine."
The Blues face the Riptide on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. first pitch. This is their second meeting of the year against the Riptide, who won at Sinsheimer on June 20, 10-6, in their last matchup.
