SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The Blues collected their 28th win of the season, tallying 14 runs on 15 hits. With this win, the Blues take sole possession of first place in the CCL North with a .781 win percentage, while the Crawdads trail with a .720 mark.
The pitching staff looked strong as Moose Cuellar got the nod to start. Cuellar went 4.0 innings, giving up three runs on six hits, walking none and striking out five. Carson Boyer was tagged with the win, coming in relief in the fifth. Boyer went 2.0 innings, giving up no runs on two hits and striking out one.
The Blues offense stayed hot in a battle to hold onto first place in the North. Five Blues had multi-hit nights: Kevin Spear, Diego Murillo, Brendan Comerford, Cesar Chavez and Dominick Najar. Diego Murillo celebrated his birthday in the best way, going 2-for-5, scoring three runs, driving in one and hitting a double.
Najar collected his first Player of the Game award with his performance at the plate Tuesday. Najar has been a rock for the Blues since Game 1 in May. The newly committed Cal State Monterey Bay Otter has been putting in the work, and that's what he credits for his performance.
"I worked hard figuring out my swing in the beginning, struggling a little bit," Najar said. "I feel like I'm really figuring things out, and today kind of proves it."
When looking at the race for the playoffs, Najar was able to comment on what fans can look for.
"I'm super stoked," Najar said. "Hopefully we host and have all these great fans here."
The Blues face their rivals, the Santa Barbara Foresters, Wednesday with a 4 p.m. first pitch.
