SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Only four Blues players collected hits on the day, with the first two coming in the bottom of the seventh. The Blues' pitching staff allowed 10 runs on 12 hits, while the defense committed three errors.
There was not a lot that went right for the Blues in their Sunday matchup against the Barons. The Barons threw a no-hitter through six innings, and the Blues didn't score their first run until the ninth. A late rally wasn't enough to overcome a 10-run deficit, and the Blues will look to move forward as they face Santa Barbara on Tuesday.
Cal Poly Mustang Troy Cooper started for the Blues. Cooper went 3.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits while walking two and striking out four. Joseph Gamber and Chance Jasso also had efficient outings, with both pitchers allowing no runs to cross the plate. Gamber went 1.2 innings, allowing three hits, walking two and striking out two while facing 10 batters. Jasso went one inning, allowing no hits, walking none and striking out one while facing just three.
The Blues' woes came in the fifth and sixth innings, as they gave up eight of the 10 runs. Felix Stork and Michael Rodriques both had difficult outings in those innings, with Rodriques giving up three runs on four hits, walking two and striking out three. Stork gave up five runs on one hit while walking three and facing six batters.
The Blues' offense was silent until CJ Moran singled in the seventh for the team's first hit. The ninth inning saw three Blues cross home plate, with Tate Blasi collecting the inning's only hit, a single. The other runs came off errors and walks.
The Blues are off Monday and will face the Foresters at home Tuesday. Tuesday's matchup is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch as the Blues look for revenge after falling 10-2 in the teams' last meeting.
